Within easy driving distance a visit to the Cinque Terra is a must; beautiful coastal villages tumbling down to the sea, an area frequented by two of the 19th century’s greatest poets Lord Byron and Shelley. Shelley met with his fatal boating accident in what is now named The Golfo di Poeta.
 
The region is dominated by the beauty and tranquillity of the Appenine and Apuan mountain ranges.
